The UN Secretary General Greets the Scouts at Their Centenary
Greetings from the World Scout Jamboree in Chelmsford, Uk! Today Scouting has celebrated its centenary. The feeling among the 40 000 participants at the Jamboree is great. One hundred years ago the first scout camp was held on Brownsea Island in England. The founder of the Scout Movement, lord Baden Powell, had gathered twenty boys for this first camp. Today, there are around 35 million scouts in almost all countries in the world. A remarkable achievement. The Gecretary General of the UN also Greeted the Scouts, acknowledgin the role scouting plays in dealing with global issues ranging from human rights, environment to poverty.
