Should Tony Blair Become President?

Sarkozy, the newly married French President, has some time ago almost publicly supported the former Prime Ministers candidature. France supporting Britain, I ask? It’s certainly a strange world.

The talk is that Blair was promised the position as President of the European Union if Britain would not be too problematic regarding the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. In the end, Blair was given opt outs for Britain and in the end it looked like Britain would not stop the process. Now, However, Gordon Browns political clumsiness has made the discussion flourish about the ratification again. And the Torys taste blood. Browns popularity is shrinking, and the eurosceptic Conservative leader David Cameron will of course bang the public in the head with the Lisbon treaty and try to win the Brits on his side.

So, should Blair be the next President? In a way, it could make
the Brits easier to deal with. In the same time, we should not forget that Blair was responsible for a miscalculation that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives – I’m talking about the Iraq war. Most Europeans and almost all European Governments were critical toward the operation-do we really want a President that has a vision so contradictory to that of most Europeans. I think not.
